“My life is an ever-changing story; different lead character dancing to the same theme song…..”
— Gail Bean
Gail Bean was born in St. Louis, Missouri. At the age of 3, she relocated to Stone Mountain, GA. It was here Bean developed her love for the arts in ballet classes, recitals and theater plays.
Bean begun to explore her acting on a professional level while studying under Lalayna Masters, learning the Susan Batson Technique – Need, Persona, and Tragic Flaw. “It was Lay that expanded my horizons to find my truth and not just use one acting method (Meisner, Stanislavski or Strasberg),” says Bean, “but to develop my own method by blending a combination of theirs and using whichever was the strongest choice I saw fit in the moment.” She traveled between Atlanta and New York taking classes at both Alchemy of Acting (AOA) and The Susan Batson Studios.
It was advice from mentor, Rodney Perry, that encouraged Bean to make the transition to LA. “Go, you’re young enough. If it doesn’t work, you can always move back.” Since her leap to Los Angeles, Bean has made quite an impact in the industry. From her role in indie filmmaker Eric Rhea’s short film Duffle, to gracing us with her delightful performance in Kris Swanberg’s Sundance hit, Unexpected opposite Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother). Following her performance in Unexpected, The Hollywood Reporter named Bean as one of the ‘Next Generation 10 Sundance Breakout Actors’ and Wired deemed her as “One of Our Favorite Things At Sundance.” You can find more of Bean in James Gunn’s (Guardians of the Galaxy) thriller project, The Belko Experiment, directed by Greg McLean. She also portrays the controversial character of Rasheeda ‘DaDa’ in Issa Rae’ s hit HBO show, INSECURE.
When asked what her next moves were, Bean responded, “I’ve never been that person who knows exactly how life is going to go, but I know God has a plan. Most of the time I just wing it and wait on him to be clutch. One thing I can be sure of is that the good will get better and the bad, well, God will help me through that some way or another.
Bean will appear in the syndicated NBC show Chicago PD, the FX Emmy Award hit show ATLANTA & Comedy Central’s Detrioters. She is currently taping for season 2 of FX show, Snowfall. The best is yet to come for this thriving young actress.
